La Grange Holiday Walk on December 1st, 2012

The entire town of La Grange comes together on this night to celebrate the holiday season. Local stores are open to the public with fun events and specials. A trolley provides transportation from one end of town to the other. The trolley has a stop at our studio for your convenience!

Children's Holiday Mini Session--Saturday December 8th

Wyckoff-Tweedie Photography is truly grateful for the lasting customers and friendships we have built over the years. To show our appreciation, we would like to do something special this holiday season. On Saturday, December 8^th from 10:00-4:00 we are hosting a Children’s Holiday Mini Session! There will be door-prizes and coupons aplenty and treats for everyone.

This one day only experience will give you portraits and memories of this holiday season to treasure. Do you need a present for mom or dad? How about those hard to shop for Grandparents? Our unique holiday products printed with your children’s portraits are sure to bring a smile to even the biggest Scrooge in your family. Sessions are only $30 (that is 60% off our regular portrait session cost).

We will be making photographs and serving beverages and holiday snacks from 10:00-4:00. Call 708.354.2880 to set up an appointment. Walk-in appointments are also welcome. Your pets may also join in on the fun!

Our white background will be decorated with red and silver holiday ornaments and we will have a variety seats and props handy to accommodate families with different numbers and ages of children. Your child can wear their special holiday attire or dress in another outfit.

Your Children’s Holiday Mini Session will produce 15-20 portraits. These images will be put online in a password-protected gallery where you can place your order. In addition to having access to a variety of unique holiday products you will have access to a special portrait price list for this session only (it is 50% off our regular family price list if you were wondering). This is our holiday gift to so many of you who have been so wonderful over the years. Thank you! And to those of you who don’t know us—this is a great opportunity to meet us.

In 6 months I grew this much!

Time is flying by and all our babies who are doing the First Year Special are growing up and getting bigger! What better way to show their growth than to photograph them in the same outfit each time they come in? Look who we had in our studio today....

This fun little Irish guy has been in for newborn, three month and six month portraits. We are excited to see what the next 6 months brings!

For all you who are wondering what the First Year Special is I will explain. You can purchase a package with either 3 or 5 sittings for your baby's first year. With the three sitting package babies are usually photographed at newborn, 6 months and 1 year. In the five sitting package babies are traditionally photographed at newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year. With the five sitting package mom also gets a free maternity session. The cost? $150 for three sittings or $250 for five sittings (plus the maternity session!).

One of our two Cute Kid Photo Contest winners came in to our studio last weekend to be photographed.  We took a few photos in the studio then headed outside into a beautiful spring day.  This little guy is absolutely adorable and full of happiness.  His fun personality shines through in his pictures!

Babies, Babies, Babies!

Thank you to all of our babies, mommies and daddies who have come in recently for portraits.  We love photographing babies and are grateful to be a part of such a special time in your lives.  The portraits you take today will be memories forever. 

We recently had this little guy come in for his newborn session.  At just over one week old he was the perfect age to come in for his first portraits.

In celebration of February 29th we are offering all sittings for $29!  Call anytime between now and March 3rd to schedule a sitting for only $29 (no need to rush in for portraits before March 3rd, just call in and schedule your portraits for sometime this spring or summer).  Bring in your family.  Bring in your parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Surprise grandpa and grandma with portraits for their anniversary.  Call today to schedule a time to bring in your kids for an updated photograph.  The dates just before and after Easter will book quickly so call ASAP to schedule your family portraits (especially if your college kids will be back in town for the holiday).

Today's Maternity Session, Tomorrow's Memories.

At Wyckoff-Tweedie Photography we love doing maternity sessions. There is nothing like anticipating the arrival of a baby. Being welcomed into a couple's life to capture this exciting time is humbling as well as delightful. 

We had a wonderful maternity session today with a couple who is expecting their first baby at the beginning of March.  We actually photographed the happy couple's wedding a couple years ago and have enjoyed watching this couple grow and change.  Mom is 33 weeks along and feeling great.  If the baby comes early, he or she will be a leap year baby just like grandma!  The couple doesn't know if it is a boy or girl--any guesses?  There is a 50% chance you will be right...

Each maternity session is different and unique in its own way.  Here are some little things we did that made a big difference in the session today:

1.  We used a chalkboard.  Everyone and their mother-in-law has heard the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words."  I believe there is truth to this saying.  Photographs are a timeless way to capture a moment, expression or even a feeling.  Photos can even convey more than words can say.  However, when you need to convey a message, chalkboards will do the trick!

2. We made mom comfortable.  Everyone will look how they feel in a photograph so keeping mom comfortable is essential!

3.  We planned ahead.  We are lucky enough to do the maternity and baby sessions for this family (yes, they have the Baby's First Year Special).  With some forward thinking, we helped create themes that can be carried through the baby's portraits.  Stay tuned for these...

Today (and most days, actually) it was the little things that made this sitting memorable and the photographs timeless.

Favorite Equipment

Jim Tweedie, Owner of Wyckoff-Tweedie Photography, has seen almost everything when it comes to photography.  The Age of Film.  The quality of old view cameras (and their difficulties of use).  Darkrooms.  Loading film holders in the dark.  Set ISO's.  The beginnings of the Digital Age.  Photoshop.  Adjustable ISO's.  He has over 3 decades of experience in the photography industry which leads me to ask him a couple questions.

Q:  What is one of your favorite pieces of equipment from the past?
Jim:  One of my favorite pieces of equipment ever was my Hasselblad Camera because of how sharp it was. 

Q:  What is currently your favorite piece of equipment?
Jim:  My camera, oddly.   It can collect so much information, it's as though we are shooting large format film again.  Large groups look 3-dimensional.  Now images are so sharp I hardly miss the Hasselblad.   [Jim usually operates a Nikon D3X]
